What Academic ability is required?
A minimum of NCEA Level 2 (four years at secondary school) including Mathematics, English and at least one Science subject is required e.g. Physics. University Entrance and/or a tertiary qualification is preferred.
What are the Medical Requirements?
A reasonable level of fitness is required. Anyone intending to train as a pilot should have a medical check up from an Aviation Doctor who can answer any questions you may have.
Does my licence expire?
If you hold a New Zealand licence it is yours for life. You need a current New Zealand medical to be able to use it. New Zealand medicals may be done overseas by New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority approved doctors.
Is a New Zealand Licence recognised overseas?
NZCAA is recognised by ICAO. Most countries have a fairly simple conversion process but we recommend you ask your Aviation Authority for details.
How good does my English have to be?
You should be able to read and speak English comfortably. Nelson Aviation College works with various English schools who are extremely competent. We can assist with language training prior to arrival if necessary. International students who have English as a second language are required to meet a total score of ILETS level 5.5 or equivalent prior to enrolment. They must also obtain a minimum of ILETS 5.0 in the Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking areas. |
