What academic ability is required?

NCEA Level 3 Certificate (or equivalent) with: At least 14 Level 3 credits in a language-rich subject (such as, but not limited to, English, history, art, geography, biology) and at least 14 Level 3 credits in a numbers-orientated subject (such as but not limited to, calculus, statistics, physics, chemistry, accounting)

or a trade qualification at Level 4 or above

or a pass in all PPL Subjects gained over a period of not more than 42 days where no more than two subjects have been failed, no one subject has been failed more than twice

What are the medical Requirements?

A NZ CAA Medical Certificate Class 1.

Does my licence expire?

If you hold a New Zealand licence it is yours for life. You need a current New Zealand medical to be able to use it. New Zealand medicals may be done overseas by New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority approved doctors.

Is a New Zealand Licence recognised overseas?

NZCAA is recognised by ICAO. Most countries have a fairly simple conversion process but we recommend you ask your Aviation Authority for details.

How good does my English have to be?

4 years secondary schooling in a country where the first language is English or an IELTS overall score of 6.0, with no sub-part (reading, writing, listening, speaking) below 6.0 (or equivalent test). Click here to see equivalence table.

What is Fit and Proper Status and how could it affect me?

CAA requires you to hold fit and proper status at the time of your Licence issue and to continuously comply with this status. Click here to read more.

Students must provide an up to date Criminal Conviction Report showing a conviction free period of at least three years prior to the date on which training will commence and no more than one conviction for drunk driving. Students must also provide an up to date Demerit Points and Suspension History Report (Traffic Offence History) showing a maximum of 65 demerit points within the three years immediately prior to the date on which training will commence.
 

Do students at NAC wear a uniform?

Not in 2011.  However, both aeroplane and helicopter students will be required to wear a uniform starting in 2012.  The uniform is currently being selected and when we have more details they will be posted online, including the costs.
