Instructor Rating

This is a Level 6 course and is available for those students that have completed a CPL and wish to complete an instructor rating as part of their pathway to an airline career or to pursue a career in instructing. This course is twelve weeks in duration and is offered two times per year in March and September. This course is designed to encompass the CAANZ Flight Instructor Rating Syllabus.

Students must complete the following elements as part of the instructor rating course:

  • Instructional Techniques Theory (four day course)
  • Instructional Techniques Practical (25 hours dual, 1 hour spinning instruction)
  • Aerodynamics
  • Preflight Briefings

There is a maximum of six students per course. Entry therefore into these courses is very limited. Students will be required to attend an interview to assess their suitability in this role prior to acceptance onto this course. On completion of this course students must complete 6 months and 100 hours of direct supervision. Suitable candidates who have demonstrated an above average standard during the Instructor Rating course may be offered a position on the C Cat Supervision programme.

  • Students must have a minimum of 150 hours Pilot in Command prior to taking the C Category Flight Test. Any additional flight time required to meet this requirement will be charged at the current aircraft hourly rate at the time of training.
